The East Forest Park Civic Association will hold a public meeting with Springfield Director of Public Works Chris Cignoli to discuss ongoing construction near the intersection of Island Pond Road and Roosevelt Avenue.
The project is designed to alleviate inadequate pedestrian routes and improve traffic flow, the DPW said in a project notice.
“The Island Pond Road and Alden Street intersections, located on opposite sides of Watershops Pond, both experience high traffic volumes and congestion during peak conditions,” the notice said. “The pedestrian facilities in this area are inadequate with poor connectivity and no protected crossings.”
The project will replace the separate intersections that link Island Pond and Roosevelt with a single, signalized intersection. It will also adjust signal times and provide new equipment at the Alden Street and Roosevelt Avenue intersection across the pond.
C&A Construction from Ludlow was selected to perform the work by the Massachusetts Department of Transportation and began construction earlier this month.
The civic association meeting will take place 6:30 p.m. on April 12 at Holy Cross Catholic Church on Plumtree Road.
